Constructing best mean-square polynomials approximating a function and its derivatives

Abstract:

The paper proposes a direct method for constructing a polynomial of degree m-best mean approximation that approximates both the function and its derivatives up to the m-th order. These polynomials are close to polynomials of best uniform approximations.
